Military Technology: COMINT 101 – The TCI Approach

A soldier executes COMINT strategies“The theme running through this issue of MilTech is C4ISR – in its broadest possible definition. Lying at the heart of modern warfare – in space or on the ground, at sea or in the ether – lies the capability to gather, analyse and disseminate data, in increasing volumes, of increasingly diverse natures and often at speeds that just a decade ago would have astonished operators. Arguably, at the heart of that capability lies the ability to communicate, reliably and securely – and countering that security is the province of the signals and communications intelligence communities (SIGINT and COMINT respectively). TCI International, based in Fremont, California, is a leading developer and provider of COMINT capability and recently shared with MilTech a copy of a white paper The Current State and Future of Tactical COMINT. Much of this column is based on that paper and subsequent discussion with TCI’s Kevin Davis.”

2021 TCI Customer Virtual Technical Training Seminar

Fremont, CA – April 2021 – A leader in world-class spectrum monitoring systems, TCI recently held its annual Technical Training Seminar on March 01-04, 2021. Hosted online for the first time, this event allowed for spectrum monitoring and management system users from around the world to virtually gather and reconnect after a pause in 2020 due to the worldwide COVID 19 situation and restrictions.

With over 350 registrants, the 2021 TCI Customer Virtual Technical Training Seminar had the highest attendance to date. Attendees from over 40 countries participated in our training program, carefully designed to provide and reinforce knowledge on spectrum monitoring and management procedures, equipment and trends.

TCI adapted our classroom Technical Training Program into 18 sessions where participants could follow an instructor on a variety of topics, including:

  • Spectrum Monitoring – occupancy measurements, direction finding, field strength measurements and quality of service
  • Spectrum Management – data entry and collection, type approval, interference analysis, licensing, frequency allocation, violation and complaint resolution
  • Maintenance – maintaining and troubleshooting TCI equipment
  • Future of Spectrum Monitoring – 5G, trends and product solutions

The sessions and materials shared during the training event provided individuals with tools to better perform their day-to-day duties. Using online tools and resources, we recreated our training classroom so that participants could attend sessions from anywhere and on a flexible schedule.

TCI is proud to continue to contribute to the knowledge and growth of many of the worldwide spectrum management and monitoring organizations and regulators.

Battlespace – The Current State and Future of COMINT

In-theater spectrum operators use a TCI COMINT solution in the fieldTCI is in the news again! Julian Nettlefold graciously included an important article on the future of COMINT capabilities and operations in the February issue of Battlespace C4ISTAR Technologies. Please see our article on pages 36-39 at the link below:

“In the early morning hours in Africa, a peacekeeping electronic warfare (EW) platoon loads its equipment into vehicles and drives through the gates of its forward operating base (FOB) towards the day’s area of operation. The platoon deploys two tactical COMINT teams…”
