Chirpsounder® (Chirpcomm®)
TCI produces specialized equipment to measure the characteristics of the ionosphere using our proprietary Chirpsounder® technology. TCI's equipment is used for communications, radar and DF systems that operate in the 2 to 30 MHz frequency range where the ionosphere has a major effect on the propagation characteristics of the signals.
TCI's Chirpsounder® receiver provides the necessary real-time data to optimize communications in the HF bands by measuring the current propagation conditions – the greatest unknown in an HF communications network. Sweeping synchronously with multiple distant Chirp transmitters, the Chirpsounder® receiver sounds the paths and measures path parameters such as propagation modes surface, sporadic-E, F, spectral spreading, signal level, signal-to-noise ratio, and multipath. Only those bands which are propagating by reliable modes with minimal distortion are recommended for use.
Communications
- Short, high-reliability communications, even under the worst of conditions, 40-character messages can be transmitted and received using Chirpcomm®
- Fully automatic spread spectrum technique using all frequencies 2-30 MHz
- Completely eliminates the need to measure or predict specific propagations bands or interference levels
Support direction-finding and radar systems
- Fully automatic TCI sounders provide accurate real-time measurement of ionospheric height
- Bistatic near-vertical incidence sounders (NVIS) and monostatic vertical incidence (VI) sounders available
- Measurement data enables an HFDF/SSL (single site location) system to calculate distance from a single DF site to a target transmitter
